I’m excited to share a new episode of “Let’s Play Catch” presented by Black Baseball Mixtape. “Let’s Play Catch” blends baseball and culture in a fun and informative way for our growing audience.
Our second episode features a catch with Naomi Ryan (LHP, UTL, Team USA Women’s Baseball, The Miller School, Class of 2026). The segment was filmed at Bethlehem Little League in Richmond, Virginia, and our host was Cheats (founder of the Mixtape). Both Naomi and Cheats have ties to BLL. Naomi played at BLL for 3 years, and Cheats played there (yes, a long time ago). Now, he coaches his son and niece on the same field where he learned the game.
In Part I of the conversation, Naomi discusses her love for baseball from a very young age, which was influenced by her dad and brother, both of whom played baseball at a high level. She also talks about playing for coach Billy Wagner (The Miller School), who was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in July. Naomi was first introduced to USA Baseball by attending a camp in Washington, DC. She also participated in several MLB Develops programs. She credits USA camps and MLB Development programs for helping her achieve her current success.
In part II of the conversation, Naomi talks about her positive support system – including her family and coaches, she talks about battling criticism and remembering her why, she concludes with a fun discussion of her music playlist and baseball influences.
“Let’s Play Catch” is hosted by Cheats – a Black baseball insider and washed hip-hop “old-head” writer who long achieved “Unc” status without knowing it.
