I’m starting to see a pattern when it comes to Black baseball signings this offseason. What is that pattern? It’s club-friendly, low-risk/high-reward deals. Tim Anderson is the latest Black player to meet this standard. TA7 signed a minor league deal with the Los Angeles Angels. This may be the best (and last) opportunity for the two-time all-star. Under the leadership of Ron Washington, Anderson should have a skipper who will help him eliminate of field distractions and help return him his previous all-star form. The pattern that I am discovering does not just apply to Anderson, but also Dom Smith, DJ Stewart, and Nick Gordon, all of which signed low-risk deals with major upside. These clubs are taking a risk, but the risk is very low and the potential payout is high.
