TRACKING THE 2025 BLACK BASEBALL HALL OF FAME CLASS

We are one week away from the Baseball Hall of Fame Class of 2025 announcement. Who are you tracking? Black baseball fans are looking closely at CC Sabathia, who according to the public ballot posted on Hall of Fame Ballot Tracker, CC is currently sitting at 93%, well above the 75% needed to be inducted. I am also tracking the progress of Andruw Jones and Jimmy Rollins. Major love goes out to Curtis Granderson and Adam Jones for being on the ballot for the first time.

More about the numbers: As of 2014, are 346 members of the baseball Hall of Fame. This number doesn’t include Dick Allen and Dave Parker, both were voted in by the Era Committee (formerly the veterans committee) last year and will be enshrined with the 2025 class.

Black players make up just under 20% of the baseball Hall of Fame. That number is just under 10% when you count the players voted in by the BBWAA (outside of the Era Committee and the Negro League committee). By my count, CC Sabathia will join Fergie Jenkins (Canadian-born) and Bob Gibson as the only Black pitchers voted in the Hall by the BBWAA, not by a special committee. Such a huge honor.
