Could Washington, D.C., be the center of Black Baseball in 2025? Don’t look now, but the Nationals have eight American-born Black players on their MLB roster, and they have all the ingredients to capture Black baseball fandom. They have the all-star shortstop in C.J. Abrams @cj__abrams. The top rotation is set with starting pitcher Josiah Gray @jojogray40. The young phenom position is set with James Wood @jwood.29, and Josh Bell fills the traveled veteran.
The Nationals also have solid utility players with breakout potential in Trey Lipscomb @tlips22, Nasim Nunez @nasimnunez, Stone Garrett @stonegarrett, and Darren Baker @__darrenbaker. In a city with the racial demographics of D.C. (44.4% Black), this formula makes for something unexpected. I know this may sound crazy, but you don’t have to look far to see how the Commanders have turned their meager fortunes around in D.C.
Black DC is dancing in the streets because of Jayden Daniels and the playoff-bound Commanders. If these talented (and young) Nats bond together – win or lose- it could be one heck of a party in the place once known as Chocolate City.
