“NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and the Council of the City of South Fulton, celebrate, recognize, and support Lawrence Butler’s accomplishments for his tenacity, dedication, and contributions to the community. And being the example of excellence in the pursuit of athletic achievement. And on behalf of the over 108,000 residents that call the City of South Fulton home, hereby proclaim Wednesday, January 24, 2024, as “Lawrence Butler Athletic Achievement Day” and encourage all residents to extend gratitude and support to his remarkable contributions.”
It was billed to be a jersey retirement for the first Westlake Baseball High School student-athlete to ascend to the MLB, but it was much more. It turned out to be “Law Day” in the City of South Fulton, GA. Councilwoman Carmalitha L. Gumbs (District 2) signed the proclamation with the declaration, affirming Oakland A’s outfielder Lawrence Butler with the honor.
Butler, 23, debuted for the A’s in Washington on August 11, 2023. The former Westlake High School standout was selected in the 6th round of the 2018 draft. Since then, he has progressed through the ranks, leaving a positive impression on the A’s organization at every level.
Butter is dedicated to giving back to the youth of his community. He works with the Players Alliance and is a coach and mentor at the Future is Near baseball camp.
Butler is in hard preparation for his first full season in The Show. He looks to improve his 4 HR and 10 RBI in just over 100 at-bats. The future is extremely bright for the 6’3 lefthanded swinger. But if he accomplishes nothing else moving forward, Law has already made a tremendous mark on his community and has earned this tremendous honor.
