LA Dodgers All-Star center fielder Mookie Betts is arguably the best Black player in Major League Baseball. Yesterday, Betts, 29, started his sixth All-Star game. Before the game, Betts wore a shirt by Bricks & Wood with the words “We Need More Black People at the Stadium.” When asked about the shirt, Betts said, “I’m just trying to get Black folks to Dodger Stadium. Everyone knows it’s here. We just want some more support. That’s how we get more culture into the game.”
Getting culture into the game is a mission of many initiatives, from MLB itself to little, independent, one-person blogs like this one (follow Black Baseball Mixtape on all media). Salute to Mookie for using his voice and platform to support this vital cause.
