The 2022 MLB All-Star Futures game takes place on Saturday, July 16, at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California. It will kick off what is sure to be an exciting weekend for baseball fans. The Futures Game, the Home Run Derby, and the Midseason Classic will all happen in a span of four days.
This year’s Futures Game will feature outstanding Black prospects like #7 on MLB.com top 100 Prospect Ranking Jordan Walker. Walker is currently playing in the Cardinals organization (AA). The right-handed third baseman was drafted in the first round in 2020 and had shown power and steady defensive skills at the hot corner. He is batting 310/300/489 in 69 games; with 7 HR and 32 RBIs.
#34 on the MLB Prospect Ranking is Taj Bradley of the Tampa Bay Rays (AA). He will also be one to watch at the Futures Game. Bradley was a 5th round pick in 2018. He has shown stellar progress over the last two seasons. Last year, he finished with a 12-3 record and ERA of 1.83. This year, in AA, he is 301 with a 1.51. ERA. He has 83 Ks in 71 innings.
20-year-old Masyn Winn is also with the Cards organization (AA). The strong-armed shortstop is batting 294/362/486 in 72 games. He has also proven to be a running threat at every level he’s played, stealing 23 bases so far this season.
Son of Astros Manager (and future Hall of Famer) Dusty Baker, Darren Baker, has been selected for the Futures Game. Darren is a member of the Washington Nationals organization (A). He is batting 264/.328/.347 with 13 doubles, one triple, one home run, 20 RBIs and 10 stolen bases in 55 games. He was a 10-round pick in 2021, following a stellar collegiate career at Cal.
Brewers left-handed hurler Antoine Kelly (A) is making a splash after recovering from an injury. Kelly has struck out a league-best 100 batters in just 76 innings. Opponents are only hitting .173 against the 6-foot-6 sidearm pitcher this year.
Denzel Clarke of the A’s organization (A) is not as highly rated as most of the other prospects participating in the Futures Game. He was a fourth round selection in the 2021 MLB Draft and is currently ranked as the A’s 14th best prospect. However, he has done his part on the field to earn the honor. Clarke produced a combined .903 OPS with nine homers and 16 doubles in his 247 plate appearances while stealing 17 bases.
